Meet – Dr. Rufaro Nyakatawa, a dynamic force in the financial services world, serving as the Business Development Consultant (Africa) for Jersey Finance and Founding Director of RDK Capital Consulting.
She was born and raised in a remote rural village in Zimbabwe. Her motivation was love of family and community. Being the only girl in a family of 4 boys, the only way out was to exert herself academically out of the cycle of abject poverty.
Despite being a teenage mom she attained her first degree in Statistics and Physics from the University of Zimbabwe. In her early 20’s she pursued a career in Statistics in South Africa where she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State, an MBA and a PhD from the University of Cape Town.
Dr. Rufaro Nyakatawa is a Founding Director of RDK Capital, a company that offers pathfinding services. She has travelled extensively across Africa helping businesses reimagine their African strategies and setting up in preferred markets. She has shared her experiences into a book titled “Doing Business in Africa” being launched in October 2023.
Today with over 20 years in financial services, Dr. Rufaro is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) professional. As an international speaker and thought leader, she has written articles cited in major publications and has been interviewed on channels including the BBC, CNBC, Newzroom Africa, ENCA, etc.
As she believes that resilience comes from strong communities, she volunteers her time as a Non-Executive Director at the Financial Planning Institute and an Advisor for Women in Tech and Cherie Blair Foundation.
“I am a product of a dream, resilience and determination, friends and family. Circumstances should not determine who you become,” said Dr. Rufaro Nyakatawa.
